PRESS RELEASE—Los Angeles, CA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 30, 2024

ICAN Endorses Dan Chang for LAUSD Board District 3

The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) is proud to endorse Dan Chang for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board, District 3. Dan Chang’s extensive experience as an educator and advocate for educational reform makes him uniquely qualified to address the challenges facing LAUSD schools. His focus on student safety, inclusion, and educational excellence aligns with ICAN’s priorities.

Dan Chang brings over 20 years of experience working in LAUSD, serving as a math teacher and educational leader. He has been instrumental in launching programs that improve access to arts and nutrition in schools, and has played a pivotal role in the turnaround of underperforming schools like Locke High School. As both an educator and a parent, Chang understands the critical issues impacting LAUSD families and is dedicated to delivering results.

Chang shares ICAN’s commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments for all, including Jewish students and educators. Chang has expressed support for key policies supported by our community, such as preventing and addressing antisemitic incidents, educating staff on Jewish identity to ensure that educators and administrators are aware of and sensitive to Jewish cultural history, greater access to Holocaust education, and celebrating Jewish American Heritage to acknowledge Jewish contributions to society.

These policies align with ICAN’s mission to promote inclusivity and address rising antisemitism, while supporting initiatives that foster diversity and respect within LAUSD schools.

LAUSD, the second-largest school district in the United States, serves over 500,000 students and manages an $18 billion budget. District 3, which includes key areas of the San Fernando Valley such as North Hollywood, Van Nuys, and Reseda, plays a vital role in shaping the educational future of Los Angeles. As a member of the Board, we are confident that Dan Chang will work to ensure that all students benefit from a safe, supportive, and high-performing school environment.

The election for LAUSD Board District 3 will take place on November 5, 2024.
