ICAN Endorses Sigalie Sabag for Beverly Hills Unified School District Board
The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) is proud to endorse Sigalie Sabag for the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) Board. Sigalie brings a wealth of experience as both a successful business owner and a parent of two children currently attending Beverly Hills schools. Her deep understanding of the challenges facing the district, along with her commitment to improving academic standards, safety, and accountability, make her an outstanding candidate for the BHUSD Board.
Born in Israel, Sigalie moved to Beverly Hills 15 years ago, driven by her dedication to providing her children with the best possible education. Her experience with BHUSD revealed significant opportunities to improve academic achievement and safety. Her platform emphasizes the need for stronger accountability from teachers and administrators, ensuring that students’ performance reflects the quality of education they receive.
Sigalie’s priorities align with ICAN’s mission to promote safe and inclusive educational environments. She has expressed her support for key initiatives designed to protect Jewish students and educators against the climate of surging antisemitism, improve staff training on cultural sensitivity, and ensure that antisemitic incidents are comprehensively tracked and addressed. These priorities reflect her commitment to fostering a more respectful and supportive school community.
The Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) serves around 3,000 students across five schools: Beverly Hills High School (Grades 9-12), Beverly Vista Middle School (K-8), and three elementary schools, Hawthorne, Horace Mann, and El Rodeo, which cater to students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The BHUSD Board consists of five elected members, responsible for overseeing district policies, budget allocation, and the administration of educational programs across all schools within the district. The district is known for maintaining small class sizes, with a student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 14:1.
The BHUSD Board election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. There are three seats available, and ICAN encourages Beverly Hills voters to support Sigalie Sabag.
