ICAN Stands with the Iranian People
The Israeli-American Civic Action Network stands in solidarity with the Iranian people as they take to the streets demanding economic relief, political freedom, and an end to the repressive theocratic regime that has impoverished their nation and destabilized the region for over four decades.
Since December 28, 2025, protests have spread from Tehran’s Grand Bazaar to 113 locations across 46 cities in 22 provinces—including the clerical stronghold of Qom and Zahedan, a hub of previous uprisings. The immediate trigger is economic collapse: a currency that has lost 56% of its value in six months, inflation exceeding 40%, and food prices that have surged 72% year-over-year. But the chants in the streets tell a deeper story. Iranians are not simply asking for lower prices; they are demanding fundamental change.
Now in their sixth day, these protests represent the largest demonstrations since the 2022 uprising following Mahsa Amini’s death. The regime’s response has followed a familiar and brutal pattern: tear gas, water cannons, grenades, and live ammunition. At least eight protesters have been killed and dozens arrested. Yet Iranians continue to march—building barricades, confronting security forces, and in some areas forcing regime forces to retreat.
ICAN has long maintained that the Islamic Republic of Iran—through its illicit nuclear activities, development of ballistic missiles, and support for international terrorism—represents a threat to the security of the United States, Israel, and our allies worldwide. The regime’s priorities are clear: it funds Hezbollah, Hamas, and other terror proxies while its own citizens cannot afford food or medicine. In 2025 alone, the regime executed more than 1,500 of its own people—a 35-year high.
We believe American leaders at every level of government should speak clearly in support of the Iranian people’s aspirations for freedom. Silence is not neutrality—it is complicity with a regime that terrorizes its own citizens while threatening the world.
We call on state and local officials across America to:
- Pass resolutions expressing solidarity with the Iranian people and support for policies that hold the regime accountable
- Issue public statements of support for the Iranian protesters and their demands for freedom and economic justice
- Reaffirm support for maximum pressure sanctions against the Iranian regime
- Recognize that a weakened Iranian regime means a safer world for Americans, Israelis, and people throughout the Middle East
The Iranian people have shown extraordinary courage. They deserve to know that America—at every level—stands with them.
