The FBI has officially classified the March 12 truck-ramming attack on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield — Michigan’s largest Jewish temple — as “a Hezbollah-inspired act of terrorism,” after the Lebanese-born attacker stated on video he wanted to “kill as many of them as I possibly can.” The IDF separately disclosed the attacker was the brother of a Hezbollah commander.

This is the clearest evidence yet that Iran's proxy war is hitting American Jewish institutions domestically. With the US-Israel war in Iran ongoing and Hezbollah still active in Lebanon, ICAN should amplify calls for enhanced federal protection for Jewish facilities and push back on any effort to normalize or excuse this threat.

The DNC’s resolutions committee will take up multiple anti-Israel measures at its upcoming New Orleans meeting — including a resolution calling on Democrats to reject AIPAC funding and another accusing Israel of genocide and demanding suspension of arms transfers. It’s unclear whether the resolutions will pass but they reflect the deepening divide in the party.

This is a major threat to the bipartisan pro-Israel coalition. ICAN should be tracking DNC members on the resolutions committee and mobilizing allies to prevent these from passing. If they do pass in any form, it reshapes the political landscape heading into the midterms.

Gov. Tony Evers signed AB 446, codifying the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism into Wisconsin state statutes — giving public institutions a legal framework to identify and respond to anti-Jewish bias. The bipartisan bill is the latest in a string of state-level IHRA adoptions.

This is the playbook ICAN is running at the state level. A Democratic governor signing IHRA into law is significant — it removes the partisan talking point against adoption. Use this as a model and precedent for pending IHRA campaigns in other states.

Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Delia Ramirez (D-IL), and Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) introduced a war powers resolution Friday that would block all US participation in and assistance to Israeli operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon — notably without mentioning Hezbollah by name.

This resolution likely won't pass but is a forcing mechanism — any House member can bring it to a vote. It gives Israel critics a recorded vote to weaponize in primaries. ICAN should be tracking co-sponsors and preparing district-level responses.

Canada’s main progressive party, the New Democrats, elected filmmaker Avi Lewis as leader — a self-described Jewish anti-Zionist who called Israel’s actions in Gaza “genocide” in his acceptance speech and campaigned on “unapologetic anti-Zionism.”

Lewis's Jewish identity will be used to deflect accusations of antisemitism while mainstreaming anti-Zionist politics in a major Western democracy. Expect this playbook to migrate south into Democratic primary politics — it's already visible in the Mamdani model.
