Los Angeles Israeli-Americans Endorse Rick Caruso for Mayor
Los Angeles, California: The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) in California has announced the endorsement of businessman and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Rick Caruso. Mr. Caruso is a successful developer of world-class residences, town centers, offices, and street-front retail.
“The City of Los Angeles has limitless potential, but today, it’s clear we’ve been heading in the wrong direction,” said Vered Elkouby Nisim, Chair of ICAN California. “Caruso is the only candidate who can put LA back on the right track by improving public safety, addressing the housing crisis, and bringing economic development back to our city.”
ICAN evaluated LA mayoral candidates based on their policies related to enhancing public safety, combating antisemitism, and supporting policies that protect Israeli immigrants from national origin discrimination.
“I am proud to accept ICAN’s endorsement of my candidacy for Mayor of LA,” said Rick Caruso. “As the grandson of immigrants, I have always placed great value on protecting and enhancing LA’s diversity. Israeli immigrants to our city have, like all immigrants, made incredible contributions but also faced enormous challenges. I stand with ICAN against those who commit hate crimes or discriminate in any way. Working together, I know we can make LA a better city for all of us.”
The City of Los Angeles is home to the largest Israeli immigrant population outside of Israel, including an estimated 250,000 first and second-generation Israelis across Southern California.
“As an Israeli business owner in LA, I’m concerned about the direction our economy is headed,” said Guy Bachar, an ICAN California Executive Council member. “We need a leader like Rick Caruso who has a vision and knows how to create a prosperous future for all Angelenos.”
ICAN California has prioritized enhancing public safety as part of a broader plan to combat antisemitism and other forms of discrimination targeting the Israeli-American community.
“As a mother of young children, public safety is my top concern. I am confident that Rick Caruso is the right person to heal the divide between law enforcement and community,” said Esther Ravid, ICAN California Executive Council.
“It’s meaningful and symbolic that we are announcing this endorsement as we celebrate Israel’s independence day,” said Michael Michalov, ICAN California Executive Council. “Me and my family are proud Israeli-Americans, and it’s clear that Caruso is the leader Los Angeles needs to solve the problems we face today so that my children don’t have to suffer from them tomorrow.”What our endorsement means:
ICAN is the only bipartisan Jewish / pro-Israel Israeli-American advocacy organization that endorses candidates at all levels of government and during primaries. ICAN supports candidates who generally believe:
1. The rise in antisemitism is unacceptable and new policy solutions need to be considered to fight this rising tide of hatred targeting Jews and Israelis.
2. The special relationship between our home, the United States, our homeland, Israel must be protected, strengthened, and deepened, including with state and local partners.
3. That Israeli-Americans, like any immigrant community, deserve the right to celebrate our heritage and connect with our culture free from bias and bigotry.
ICAN promotes the candidates we endorse to relevant constituencies, provide opportunities for candidates and voters to meet and connect, and host important voter registration activities to ensure everyone eligible to vote supports our preferred candidates. The Israeli-American Civic Action Network is dedicated to empowering Israeli immigrants and American allies to create change for a better America, a more secure Israel, and a stronger U.S. – Israel alliance through advocacy education and civic action.
