ICAN Commends Los Angeles County’s Unanimous Stand in Solidarity with Israel
October 17, 2023
Los Angeles, CA – The Israeli-American Civic Action Network (ICAN) wholeheartedly applauds the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for their courageous and unanimous 5-0 vote in passing a motion in support of, and solidarity with, the people of Israel. The motion, put forward by Supervisors Lindsey P. Horvath and Kathryn Barger, comes in the wake of brutal acts of terrorism by Hamas that began on October 6, during the Jewish holy day of Simchat Torah.
“The unanimous decision by the LA County Board of Supervisors affirms Israel’s right to defend itself and makes a clear and resounding statement against terrorism,” said Michael Michalov, ICAN California Co-Chair. “The County’s action takes a firm stance in support of justice and aligns perfectly with ICAN’s mission to create a more secure Israel and a stronger U.S.-Israel alliance.”
The motion’s unanimous passage is particularly noteworthy given the alarming and inappropriately dangerous activism from groups like CAIR and Jewish Voice for Peace. These groups aimed to undermine the resolution, making the Board’s unanimous support all the more significant and courageous.
ICAN is honored to stand with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and commends them for using their powerful voice to condemn terrorism, especially in the face of hostile activism. The organization also acknowledges the support from Consul General Israel Bachar, who expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the State of Israel during the Board meeting. The Israeli-American Civic Action Network is dedicated to empowering Israeli immigrants and American allies to create change for a better America, a more secure Israel, and a stronger U.S. – Israel alliance through advocacy education and civic action.
